“Avatar” is my best movie for the year 2009. A two-and-a-half-hour epic by James Cameron, a long movie yes, but with his storytelling prowess and the visuals and special effects a masterpiece, you wouldn’t notice the time at all.

* A story of a man given a new life and mission: to save a civilization. The lead character Jake Sully is brought to another planet called Pandora which is inhabited by a primitive race called the Na’vi. He was tasked to learn their ways and convince them to relocate so that humans can take over. However, the tables turned when Jake falls inlove with Neytiri (daughter of the Na’vi clan leaders) and the life of the Na’vis. He had to make a choice between two races he is part of.

* The most visually entertaining movie I’ve ever seen. The special effects will astonish you as James Cameron uses them to weave a beautiful story as effortlessly as possible.

* Entertaining and awesome but I believe there are also lessons to learn from the movie. I was very taken with the scene where the whole community of Na’vi people came together and joined their hands to save the life of Grace (the scientist played by Sigourney Weaver)–that was a powerful scene. I am one person who believes in the power of the universe, that each one of us has an energy that contributes to the beauty (or destruction) of the world and for me, that scene depicts all of that.

If you haven’t seen the film, I suggest you do. It’s worth it.

This was the only Christmasy stuff I bought this year…a tea towel from holySheet!.

Last year, we bought a few Christmas decors since it was our first Christmas together at a place of our own. Husband and I had fun rummaging thru loads of Christmas decors at Myer, it brought out the kid in us.

This year, I told the Husband that we should give ourselves a break from buying Christmas stuff this year. He asked me if I wanted us to have a Christmas tree (the big green one) but I declined. The logical side of me doesn’t want to engage in putting up a Christmas tree only to bring it down after four weeks. I’d rather we spend our money and time unto something more practical. Anyway, what’s important is family togetherness in honor of the birth of Christ and thanksgiving for the year that happened than any trimmings one could find. Maybe some other time we would have a Christmas tree, but not this year.

For this year, I’m just going to bring out our year-old decors. I believe that is enough as the Christmas spirit is in our hearts anyway–sparkly, bright and very very festive.

Our wedding monthsary is today but we had an early celebration on Friday night because we just want to stay home all day before I go back to work tomorrow.

We also realized that this month is also the “celebration” of our 7th syota-nniversary (7 years ago we became a boyfriend-girlfriend). How time flies, aye? Sometimes we still can’t believe how things fell into place for us. Everyday, we are just grateful that we are together thru thick and thin.

This monthsary is but a fitting celebration for what we have gone thru in terms of my health condition. I am eternally blessed to have a husband who instead of running scared since we learned about my health dilemma in August, turned out to be my greatest source of strength–the one who embraced the biggest challenge in our marriage with open arms. Even if I never wanted him to experience my health concerns, he made sure he was simply there. What we’ve gone thru in the past months is not the end of challenges in our married life, we’re sure there will be more. But today I’m more than at peace with the thought that my Husband and I are really a team even in our most darkest days. Thank you God, thank you Universe for bringing us together.

Now, let’s talk about celebrations. Since I’ve been bored at home and I needed some cheering up as well, Husband took the liberty of making me feel like a queen. He arrived on Friday afternoon with loots from Mango. Then took me to dinner at one of our favorite restos that serve yummy Pad Thai (Noodle extra).

After dinner, we went around the mall to look for clothes. The rest of the year, we seldom buy clothes but since it’s Christmas time and there are parties to attend to, I told him this is a great excuse for us to buy new clothes–you know, so we’d look presentable hehe. However, we went home empty-handed. We went back Saturday afternoon though and it was then that we bought a few items.

The movie “Avatar” was scheduled at 9PM so we decided to have coffee at Coffee Culture. I was kind of sleepy already anyway.

I had my usual Choffee and it kept me awake the whole night.

The movie was great! I love it. I will share my thoughts about it later.

Monthsary gifts, dinner, shopping, coffee and a movie. Indeed, a LOVEly way to celebrate a monthsary.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Selected items at Mango on sale!

Since I can’t go to the city this week, the Husband left work early Friday afternoon and dropped by the Mango store at The Galleries Victoria to buy me a couple of shirts. Thank goodness for the technology of video call–that saved both of us a lot of time from figuring out what I wanted (I’m very choosy when it comes to colors). Thanks Husby for the monthsary gifts :).

Got this biscuits from Singapore as pasalubong from my tito and tita (thank you!). It’s called Cashew Nut Sugee Cookies (Kampong Asia Delights).

Not a lot of people know but I’m actually a biscuits person. I’m especially fond of butter cookies and these biscuits from Singapore deliciously tastes like butter cookies only these were made from cashew nuts which all the more makes me love it (because cashew nuts are a favorite of mine). This is indeed a great pasalubong.

Next time I pass by Singapore, I’m definitely buying hoarding these.
