The sun shone a bit this morning so I brought Mrs. Kanyon with me to the supermarket.

I’m very fortunate to be living near a park with a lake and what’s good is that it is strategically on the way to the supermarket. What joy to have the luxury to walk buying fresh goodies to and from the grocery store!

At 11:05am, on my way to the supermarket, the lake looked like this…

woodcroft lake

Spend about 15 minutes taking shots here and there but didn’t stay long as clouds were already forming over the horizon. And so I had to continue walking towards the grocery store.

The reason why I went to the supermarket today was because I needed to buy ingredients for a dip that I wanted to make and bread to go with that dip. When I’m all done with that, I walked back home and as usual, I had to pass by the park. It was about 12:00noon and this was the sight the awaited me…

dark horizon

It was such an amazing sight to behold!!!! I have only seen clouds forming like that here in Australia. It looked scary but I was more in awe at how immaculate God has made such a creation. It was terrfyingly beautiful.

You can probably understand why after about 10 shots, I had to walk home fast. Even if I had an umbrella with me, I didn’t want to get my camera and groceries wet.

When I arrived home, it took about 10 minutes for the rain to finally fall. Very angry rain that was. I just had a quick lunch and a little bit of net surfing, then in a few minutes fell asleep inside my room listening to the rain. And this time, no more bad dreams.

Dream

9 February 2008 0 Comments Category: Deep Thoughts

I just had a bad dream. I dreamt I was in my High School Reunion and for some reason, I was tasked to be the photographer of the class. The good part of the dream was I saw everyone’s faces clearly as if I just saw them yesterday. The bad part was after the pictorial, all my photos were blah šŸ™ I was nearly in tears but I woke up (I usually wake up when my dreams turn into something bad).

Now I know what this is about. I’m totally having guilt feelings about photography lately because I haven’t touched a camera for two weeks. Yep, two weeks. What’s to blame? (not that I need blaming):

  • the rain that never seem to stop falling for the past couple days here in Sydney
  • books that need reading because things may happen very quickly in the nearest (!) future so I need to be ready any minute
  • during weekends I spend most of my time studying for the citizenship exam
  • sometimes I’m just too lazy or too tired to get up and shoot

Oh well, hopefully the sun shines a bit today or tomorrow and I’ll probably do some wandering with my camera.

Two Musicals I’m looking forward to this year:

WICKED (The Untold Story of the Witches of OZ) will start showing in Melbourne in July 2008. Not much details yet as they are still auditioning to complete the casting. You may register at www.ticketek.com.au for announcements and advance ticket sales prompts.

I’m hoping they will tour in Sydney too or else, I’d have to go to Melbourne just to see it.

About WICKED:

Wicked is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a libretto by Winnie Holzman. The story is based on the best-selling novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire, a re-imagining of L. Frank Baum‘s classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz from the perspective of the witches of the Land of Oz. The musical tells the stories of Glinda and Elphaba, two young witches who eventually become the Good Witch of the North and the Wicked Witch of the West, respectively, and is set mostly prior to Dorothy‘s arrival from Kansas. The plot also includes several references to the classic 1939 film.

Wicked tells the story of Elphaba, misunderstood and victimized, who grows up to become the Wicked Witch of the West, and of her reactions to the charlatan Wizard’s corrupt government. It also shows the development of her relationship with the beautiful and ambitious Galinda Upland, who becomes Glinda the Good Witch of the North. Throughout the show, their friendship struggles to endure their opposing personalities and viewpoints, rivalry over the same love-interest, and Elphaba’s eventual fall from grace.

Three reasons why I can’t wait to see these musicals:

  1. Both storylines are simply captivating
  2. Riveting songs (love love love the songs)
  3. Great production

KUNG HEI FAT CHOI!

According to this website:

A Rat Year is a time of hard work, activity, and renewal. This is a good year to begin a new job, get married, launch a product or make a fresh start. Ventures begun now may not yield fast returns, but opportunities will come for people who are well prepared and resourceful. The best way for you to succeed is to be patient, let things develop slowly, and make the most of every opening you can find. People born in an Earth Rat are said to be logical realists, shrewd, charming, ambitious, and inventive. Of course, the entire horoscope must be considered when making any personality assessment.

And according to this other website:

The Rat year is a year of plenty, bringing opportunity and good prospects. It will be marked by speculation and fluctuations in the prices of commodities and the stock market; the world economy in general will boom. Business will be on the upswing, fortunes can be made and it will be an easy time to accumulate wealth. However, this is also the time to make long-term investment plans as the bonanza the year of the Rat brings will serve to see us through the bleak years that may follow. All ventures begun at this time will be successful if one prepares well. But do not take chances or unnecessary risks: the year of the Rat is still ruled by the cold of winter and the darkness of night. Those who speculate indiscriminately and overextend themselves will come to a sad reckoning.

On the whole, this will be a happier year than most: free from explosive events and wars and with far less catastrophes than, say, the years of the Tiger or the Dragon.

Nonetheless, it will be spicy. It promises a lot of bickering, bargaining and petty arguments that will do little harm. A congenial time that will find most of us socializing and enjoying ourselves.

Not many people know this but I LOVE Chinese celebrations and traditions. Anything positive that will bring me good luck, i love it!–and yes, I follow some of it =)

Believe it or not, Chris and I celebrate the Chinese New Year and Mooncake Festival…but no, we don’t celebrate by going to Chinese festivities (at least we haven’t hehehe)…we do it our own way: by going to Starbucks and just greeting each other “Kung Hei Fat Choi” (during Chinese New Year) and by sharing mooncakes over a cup of coffee (during Moon Cake Festival). And one of our traditions before was to give mooncakes to our parents as well. We have no deep reason for celebrating such festivities but I guess one reason is that we both have this kind of respect for other culture per se and we see nothing wrong celebrating their festivities even if we are Pinoys. We find it fun and we learn something from other people’s traditions.

Even our wedding date was somehow influenced by Chinese feng shui. We consciously wanted an auspicious Saturday to get married and one of the reasons why we wanted a January 2007 wedding was because it was still considered Year of the Dog which is a good year to get married (that year having two springs in one year).

And I guess, when we thought about our honeymoon destination, our first response was Hongkong (there was nothing else on our mind but that country), as in both of us wanted to go to Hongkong and we were lucky we went there a week before the Kung Hei Fat Choi 2007 celebrations where we feasted our eyes with their new year decors (see current headshot).

For this Chinese New Year, let me celebrate with you by sharing eight (8) tips in order to have a prosperous and lucky Year of the Rat:

  1. Get rid of clutter in the home. De-clutter and give away stuff you don’t need to the less fortunate or in need. This will have a good karmic effect on your life.
  2. Clean up, dust the cobwebs away. This is a way to energize your surrounding by getting rid of “negative” dirt.
  3. Confucius says “When things go wrong, don’t go with them”.
  4. Make peace with yourself and with everyone.
  5. Repeat this mantra: “I am open to positive change in any form it takes.”
  6. The Year of the Rat is a good year for marriage, so what are you guys waiting for? *wink* (magpro-propose na kayo!)
  7. Expect a congenial year, so spend time with loved ones: socialize, socialize!
  8. Make a change. New year signifies new beginnings. With the change comes new energy.

May all of us have prosperous, peaceful and happy Year of the Rat!
