The Married Life

Sharing with you a very logical advice on getting married. I highlighted the values that my Husband and I believed in when it comes to our concept of preparing for a marriage. We read this a year before we wed and it was one of those things that gave us additional realization that we were indeed ready for marriage.

I hope soon-to-be newlyweds (and maybe even married couples) could learn something from this. Read on and enjoy!

Dr. Phil’s Advice On Getting Married

Everybody has core characteristics in their personality. Any incompatibility you experience with your partner won’t magically change. If you don’t address it before the wedding, they will only get worse and worse. Wedding papers change nothing!

If you’re divorced and have children, and ditto goes for your partner, that’s a huge deal! You’re not only merging two lives together, you’re merging two families with history. Work out issues until the threats of canceling the wedding stop, before walking down the aisle
.

Too many people fall into the trap of preparing for the wedding, and not the marriage.
Prepare for the marriage, and enjoy your wedding.

Remember your wedding is just a day,
marriage is a lifetime.

You shouldn’t say we’re going to get married on X day. You need to say we’re going to get married when we’ve done the work to resolve the problems and we have a plan. Then, and only then, when you have a life plan and you feel good about each other, should you claim that victory by walking down the aisle.

If you really love each other, and want to get married, you will do the work to get to that point.

For people very young and in love, don’t put the adult phase into a preparation phase. You need to be an individual alone, before you can be an individual in a partnership. Grow and experience by yourself, before making the decision to get married.

If you haven’t done your homework, and things start to fall apart in your marriage, your child pays the price.

Friday after work, Chris was late for dinner at Bow’s with the relatives and so when he got home, I told him I’d take him out to dinner. I had the longest week at work, stressed and tired, didn’t have the energy to cook dinner for the Husband. Besides, I also didn’t want to hang out at home after dinner. I wanted to unwind somewhere a bit.

First choice was to hang out at Starbucks but in the end, we decided to take my parents to KMart coz my Dad hasn’t seen the place and we found out that they close late on weekends.

The place was nearly deserted when we arrived. Don’t you just love it when it seemed you have the whole shop to yourself?

There was a lot of sale too. We were able to buy bathroom stuff at 25% off, Chris finally found bathroom carpets he liked. We also bought throw pillows for our bedroom at 40% off.

After a good hour of shopping, we finally took Chris to McDonald’s for his dinner. While he had his Double Cheeseburger Meal, we had hot chocolate.

KMart on Fridays is Love.

24 hour McDonald’s is Love.

It’s been a looooongggg while since we’ve celebrated our monthsary in Starbucks.

Last Monday was an accidental date…a “nakaw na sandali”…a few minutes of “us” time. Husband and I are so busy these days, we’ve only been having dessert dates lately (last month, we dropped by Max Brenner and had Belgian Waffles before going home).

There was no plan to go out really but we had to drop off some stuff at a friend’s place in Mt Druitt. Then I remembered my cuzin mentioned something about a Starbucks branch there that she goes to to have late night coffee. Chris and I decided to check it out.

We arrived 30 minutes before closing. We just ordered hot chocolates for both of us. The barista added a big marshmallow on top, guess she was feeling generous.

The funny thing about this “date” was that we were both comfortably silent the whole time we were there. We were both just sipping our hot chocolates and stared at stuff such as this wall behind him.

I guess we’re just really tired from all the gimiks we’ve been going to. Nevertheless, we enjoyed celebrating our monthsary in a familiar place, enveloped in the warmth and aroma of Starbucks’ hot chocolate.

Husband and I never usually go to the shops early. But this morning, as soon as I woke up, I just dressed up–no, breakfast even!–and went out coz Husband wanted to take me shopping for a toy that I’ve been wanting to own for soooo long.

Yesterday, we saw in a shop’s catalogue that the toy that I want will be on sale starting 13 April (which is today). Here in Australia, when something is advertised and you really want it, it is advisable that you arrive early at the shops to buy it or else, later in the day, it will be sold out.
So at 9:30am, we were at the shops already…went straight to where we could find “my” toy…and there it was…my big Wall-E!!!!

The box says “InterAction Wall-E”.

It talks, moves its head and hands, lights its eyes up and wheels around.

The amusing thing is it responds to your voice. When I call out “Wall-E!!!”…it replies back to me and says, “Eee–vaah!” Aliw!!!

Eyeloveit! 🙂

Celebrated the feast of St. Joseph at St. Michael’s Parish in the morning. It was a big celebration as there was a Filipino Fiesta for the parishioners–free food served by the different Fillipino organizations in Blacktown.

Before we left, we had our new “baby” baptized.

Stopped by our Tita Ma’s place, hung out there for a bit, then went straight to Woodcroft to greet David a happy 1st birthday.

It was a costume party but Chris and I informed Pam that we will try our best to at least drop by. Just very busy with family affairs so we didn’t really have time to prepare costumes for the party.

Jon was there as a soldier.

Cowgirl Che and Cowboy Dom was there too!

Short chitchat with Helen and Pam.

We only stayed for 30 minutes, then sped off to Parklea where the rest of the clan was waiting for us.

After shopping at Parklea, we went back to Tita Bess’ place for dinner.

Hectic, hectic…but fun, fun, fun.
