Food

Husband and I met up after work on Friday to do a little bit of grocery shopping. Hungry and tired after the task, we decided to have dinner before going home.

Usually we’d eat at a food court but last Friday, I was craving for two things: (1) Caesar Salad (which I always crave for during Summer season–I don’t know why!) and (2) a place where we can have a quiet meal, away from crowds. So from Town Hall station, we walked a bit and saw this cute and cozy cafe, Caffe Di Gabriel.

The cafe is a bit new. They have these beautiful chandeliers and I find it cute.

This was my fave chandelier in the cafe.

Now for the food. Husband and I both shared their Fettucini Amantriano (can’t exactly remember the name) and Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad.

The Fettucini Amantriano was good. I loved it. It’s similar to Arrabiata.

The Caesar Salad’s also good. A bit different from the Caesar Salads’ I’ve tried, no bacon strips or bits but instead it has this big bacon on top of the salad. Toasted bread was oily, methinks it’s been fried(?) but that’s just me. And it didn’t have croutons–so I love it!!!

The Husband loved the food too and was elated to know that the cafe has free Wi-Fi. Yay!
We enjoyed the dinner immensely not only because of the food. It’s only been a week after the New Year but we’re full on working on a lot of stuff (work-wise and household-wise) so sometimes even if at home, we talk “business” most times these days. There are several things that we hope to happen on the first half of this year, so we’re working things out now so it does happen (fingers crossed!). So the dinner did us good. Husband and I were so busy during the week, it was good to catch up, sit back and just talk.

We finally found the time to re-upholster our dining chairs.
Our dining table and chairs were hand-me-downs from my relatives and they advised us to spray paint and change the upholstery of the chairs so it would look like new again.

And so we bought gold spray paint, black fabric and a tacker.

From blue we changed the chairs to black because we wanted something neutral to go with red (which has become the dominant color in the house).
Our re-upholstered black dining chairs

Since the Husband did most of the work re-upholstering our dining chairs, I prepared a special afternoon snack for him–Mais Con Yelo! (sweet corn with ice and milk)

Max Brenner in Blacktown!!! :)

The chocolate by the bald man is here!!!!! In Blacktown that is. 😉

Boxing day today in Aussieland so Chris and I went to Westpoint to look at sales.

Boxing day is related to giving and opening of gifts, celebrated day after Christmas day and is a public holiday in Australia. It is also a day for shops to start their year-end clearance sale so most purchases are about 50-90%off. This is the best time to shop!!!

The stuff we bought today were bedsheets, quilt covers and throw pillows to match our sofa bed in the living area. Stuff that are quite expensive when bought in normal prices.

Since we left home late, we also had lunch very very late. So instead of having the usual kind of lunch, not to mention that we saw that Max Brenner‘s already open, we had belgian waffles for “lunch” at 4pm.

I also had Toffee Milk Frappe.

I told husband I finally have a place to hang out again (because the Starbucks branch in Blacktown closed). Yay!

Since Husband and I are celebrating a special milestone in our life today, he took me out on a movie date! I finally got to watch “Twilight”. The moment I saw the trailer of this movie, I got excited because it’s been awhile since I’ve seen a vampire film–and the trailer looked really good. I even read the book first because I wanted to be “prepared”. However, I was disappointed.
My husband and I found it boring.

After the movie, the Husband treated me to lunch at Panarotti’s. We had my favorite three-cheese pizza and Napolitana spaghetti.

So what’s the highlight of your Weekend?

For the past month, Husband and I have been spending weekends either with relatives and friends or we’re busy buying stuff for the home. So this weekend, we declared it as a Weekend Date, where we exclusively just hang out with each other and stay home and do anything we want (but that includes chores hehehe).
Friday night, we had dinner at The Rocks to watch the lighting of the Christmas Chair Tree. While having dinner we were entertained by a Hawaiian Band and an acapella group singing Christmas songs. It was so lovely. Our Friday dinner date ended us having coffee at Starbucks where I had my Christmas favorite “Toffee Nut Latte.”
Saturday, I was pretty busy in the kitchen as I cooked a lot of stuff like Spam, Egg and Fried Rice (I usually cook something unhealthy for breakfast once a week as a sort of treat for eating cereal for the rest of the week), Menudo and Fat Burning Soup. While I was busy cooking, Husband assembled our Tallboy cabinet.
Since it’s summer here in Australia, we welcomed the first summer weekend by having Halo-halo and Turon for afternoon snacks.
After our delicious afternoon snack, we had a bit of re-arranging of furnitures. Our bedroom really looks like a bedroom now (Yay!). Now we only need to find lampshades we like for our side tables.
Sunday morning was just spent at the shops for some grocery and a little Christmas shopping.
Weekends like these are priceless. Although we do enjoy spending time with relatives and families, it’s always good to re-connect with each other every chance we get.
May you all have a blessed week!
